Historic Clothing and Textiles Collection goes digital

Author: Tyler Wilkins

Students, researchers and fashion historians have used the University of Georgia’s Historic Clothing and Textiles Collection to study fashion for years.

Now it’s becoming even more accessible through a digitization process led by Monica Sklar, an assistant professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Sklar, who teaches fashion history and merchandising courses, is working with a team of UGA students, volunteers and members of the Costume Society of America to digitize the collection.

The team includes CURO research students and fashion majors Natalie Neal and McKenzie Durham, undergraduate student Alice Morse, Ph.D. student Maureen Brewster, CSA Executive Director Kristen Miller Zohn and CSA members Leon Weibers and Dina Smith Glaviana, as well as other volunteers.

Photos documenting the process can be seen here.
